Saving Shipping Cushions

Posted by

Need a little relaxation? Sinking into a bath sounds great until your neck hits the cold, hard tub. Enter the shipping cushion–those little inflatable bags used in shipping boxes. The little cushy pillow is perfect to rest your head on while relaxing in the tub.

1 Save your shipping cushions!

2 Use them for your at-home spa.

3 Save energy by crafting a draft guard.

4 Use them in pots for healthier plants.

Making a draft guard is another great use for these little bags. Cut them apart between the seams careful not to slice the seam and deflate the bag. Slip the pillows into a spare tube sock. I used an old soccer sock which worked perfectly. Then lay the draft guard in front of the door or along the window sill to prevent cold air from entering.

Another use for these shipping cushions is inside a pot prior to planting. Before adding the soil place one or more if your pot is larger. The cushion will allow for more aeration and better drainage without adding weight.
And it goes without saying but it makes sense to keep a few on hand to use like when shipping an item or storing delicate items in your own home.

  • Are you sure it's safe to use some of these plastic packages in soil and hot water, which are conditions which might encourage chemical leaching?

  • The best use for these little things is stomping on them to release the aggravation of receiving the wrong item, too late, and having to fight with non existent customer service

  • I completely agree! Just like bubble wrap they are great stress reducers when squished :)
