Behind the Scenes on Whole Living's Earth Day Shoot
Posted by Sarah Engler
Have you seen the Earth Day story in our April issue yet? This year, we wanted to inspire everyone to tackle those larger green projects in their lives, and we gave editor-in-chief Alex Postman's neighborhood a mini eco makeover in the process. From guerilla gardening to roof painting, here's a better idea of what it took to make the story happen.
1 Believe it or not, Deputy Art Director Jamie Prokell and Editor-in-Chief Alex Postman did not call each other ahead of time to plan their outfits.
2 Stylist Dawn Sinkowski shows our junior gardeners (Bea and Teddy) how to add plants to a tree well without endangering the tree.
3 Help from their mom, Miranda.
4 Alex and her daughter, Nell, join in.
5 A little plant fluffing between shots.
6 The kids were so excited for the moment they could use the hose.
7 Photographer Johnny Miller and Dawn create some rain for the rain barrel shot.
8 Checking to see how it looks.
9 We picked one of the hottest, sunniest days to paint Alex's roof white.
10 White paint helps keep your home cooler, so Jamie tries to cool himself with a white sheet. (It did help!)
11 Taking a break to wait for the sun to drop.
12 Alex gets to the task at hand.
13 Johnny uses some branches to soften the frame.
14 Almost finished!
What's your Earth Day pledge? Tell us, and you could win a free "This is the Year I'll..." T-shirt! (And if "collecting rain water" or "composting" is your answer, check out these great tools.)
