- Drugs come with risks. Even cholesterol-lowering drugs. The FDAjust issued a safety recommendation regarding high-doses of simvastatin (Zocor) a statin drug used to help reduce the amount of “bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol or LDL-C) in the blood.
The American Heart Association offers comprehensive advice about how to check-- and keep--your cholesterol levels healthy. In the March issue of Whole Living, Meryl Davids recently wrote about how nuts, grains and other delish plant-based foods can work as cholesterol-lowering foods. Check it out, and ask your doctor about how your diet can help heal you. Power foods can even enhance the effects of some medications.
