Power Up With This Blended Coffee Smoothie

Posted by

As the summer temperatures rise, I’m constantly in search of something cool and refreshing.  For a while I was gravitating toward a decaf iced coffee with lots of ice and a splash of milk. But recently, I have discovered something better with hardly any caffeine. If you love the taste of coffee, but don't want the spike, this smoothie offers that, plus a boost of protein. It’s my new breakfast treat.

Almond milk
A non-dairy alternative to milk, this is favored by detox divas for the ease at which your body is able to absorb its nutrients and then fully eliminate anything after that. Ultimately, eating these types of foods allows your body to more quickly return to its detoxification and beauty work.

Herbal coffee
You might consider going with a few scoops of herbal coffee. Detox divas argue that regular (and even decaf) coffee is highly acidic. Acidic foods such as coffee, they argue, cause your beautiful bod to produce fat cells in order to protect your organs. Learn more about herbal coffee here.

Blended Coffee Smoothie with Protein

1 cup almond milk (I like the Blue Diamond brand, Original)
1/2 cup brewed coffee, preferably herbal
1 banana
1 scoop vegetarian protein powder (I like the Vega Naturals brand, Chocolate)
4-5 ice cubes
Place almond milk, coffee, banana, protein powder, and ice into a powerful blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Add additional ice to thicken and top with a sprinkle of fresh coffee grounds, if desired. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
