Challenge of the Day: Get Heart Healthy—with Hardly Any Effort at All

If work or other deadlines have you glued to your chair today, fidget. Simple movements like drumming your fingers, tapping your foot, or bouncing your leg can actually contribute to overall heart health. A 2011 study showed that sedentary, obese adults who spent more time doing "incidental movements"—such as fidgeting, chopping onions, or taking a few steps here and there—had higher levels of cardio-respiratory fitness, considered an important indicator of overall health, than those who moved less. Ready, set, squirm!
