Natural Beauty Gurus: The 10 Questions I Always Ask, Margo Marrone

Who is your beauty inspiration? Italian women, I am always in awe of the care, attention, and importance they place on being well groomed and dressed. It’s about making the most of what you have and they make looking good appear effortless (which we all know it’s not). Ultimately it’s about feeling good about yourself and that you are worth the time and effort. My daughter is also a big inspiration for me.

What product/treatment/beauty indulgence do you spend the most on? I have regular health scans (once every three months) with one of my homeopaths to bring my body and mind into balance and help me function at my optimum. I believe in proactively preventing illness and being in tune with my body but also being ill uses a lot of energy—energy I can’t afford to waste—energy I would rather use fulfilling my destiny. If I had to buy products I would be spending a fortune on Marine Collagen Complex and TOP Detox capsules. You cannot beat the internal and external approach.

What do you spend the least on? Because I’m time starved I spend the least on grooming I can do at-home like hair and nails.

What does age mean to you? I believe we all have a path (or several possible paths) to follow—our destiny if you like. Until you find your destiny it’s as if you are searching and searching almost without knowing what you are searching for. For me, age means usually you have found your destiny (if you are lucky) and by doing so you have found the path of least resistance and hopefully happiness. Age brings with it a sense of knowing who you are, accepting all your faults, recognizing your strengths and making the most of what you have. I am so much more confident in my forties than I ever was in my twenties. Again, I hope to take a lead from Italian women who grow old and are able to still look sexy!!

What's the most interesting thing you've learned about skin/hair/nails/beauty this year? Ever since I first started treating clients more than ten years ago I noticed that the majority of my clients showed signs of toxicity (dull skin, bags under the eyes, low energy, mood swings, brain fog, excess weight). I would prescribe a mixture of clay and herbs; I found on their return their skin was glowing, hair was shiny and eyes were sparkling with much better energy and mood. I made this formula into our Detox capsules which I would do four times a year at the change of every season. This year I realized that even with my organic and healthy lifestyle my body was showing signs of toxicity much faster. I found that by taking the Detox capsules every day I actually improved my skin, hair, and nails as well as my well-being and mental clarity to the point that I can’t be without them. Beauty from within!

What's the one thing you do (not product-based) that you think affects your appearance more than anything else? For me it's sleep, for sure. I need to have my beauty sleep. I find that everything else falls to pieces without it.

Why naturals? Natural is important but organic is even more important. As a pharmacist and later as a homeopath I never considered myself to be in the beauty business but rather in the health business. Organic was the only choice for health both for us as humans and for our environment and respecting the wildlife and mother nature. After all, who wants to eat or apply poisons? The challenge was to bring organics from the granola arena to the modern one. I for one was not going to give up on effective anti-aging creams or lotions that really made a difference to my skin. I wanted high tech, well-researched formulas that delivered serious results that promoted health and well-being, too. Fortunately, my background allowed me to create exactly that—healthy, organic, high-tech formulas that any modern woman would want to use. You don’t have to compromise on glamour to go organic.

  • I really enjoyed this piece, and I love the last statement... "you don't have to compromise on glamour to go organic." So true! There are so many wonderful products available today that are environmentally-friendly & cruelty-free.
