Smoothie Wednesday: Kale with Strawberry and Cinnamon

Kale is one of those greens that I regularly keep on hand in my fridge. And lately, as the days grow warmer, I’ve been excited to experiment with it in new smoothie recipes like this one with strawberries and cinnamon. In fact, for the past week or two, I’ve been building a variety of different smoothies from a simple base of kale and strawberries. Sometimes I’ll add a few additional warming spices like cardamom or nutmeg. Or maybe a few splashes of velvety homemade almond milk. And other times, for decadence, I’ll sneak in chocolate. I’m looking forward to sharing a few more of my kale-strawberry smoothie favorites with you over the next few weeks. In the meantime, here is one with cinnamon that will be sure to perk up a morning this week!

Kale Smoothie with Strawberry and Cinnamon
Serving Size: 1 (~200 calories – with Stevia)

1 cup strawberries*, frozen
1 cup kale*, loosely packed
1/4 avocado, pitted and peeled
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup water
1/16th TEAspoon of Stevia (or honey)
1-2 ice cubes, to thicken
(*Organic, if possible)

Better-for-you ingredients in this recipe:

Berries, including blueberries, are packed with antioxidants that fight free radicals. Free radicals are believed to contribute to disease and accelerate aging.

Cinnamon is embraced by health beauties for many reasons, but most especially because it’s believed to be great for digestion.

Directions
Place ingredients into a good powerful blender until smooth and creamy. Thin with water or thicken with ice if desired. Enjoy!
