A Simple Life Balance Exercise: Yoga Off the Mat

Posted by

I’m excited to share an exercise I find very fulfilling. It’s a great way to take stock of what’s going on in the current moment in order to clarify where we hope to go.

What is it?

A Life Balance Wheel, or as my life coach and teacher Sharon Brown calls it, the Wheel of Life exercise.

As you’ll see, the circle above is divided into eight parts. Each one represents major areas of one’s life: community, relationships, spirituality, career, money, recreation, health, and personal growth. (Note: these are not listed in order of importance!) This is an exercise about honest and loving self-assessment. Embracing our present foundation and acknowledging where we desire, and even need change can be an invaluable force in initiating the transformation we seek.

With this in mind, I invite you to do the following today:

Print out or copy the diagram above.

On a scale of 0 to 10 (0 being the lowest), rate your current satisfaction level in each of these areas. You can simply write the numbers or draw inside each region.  Feel free to be creative!

Once this is complete, give yourself a moment to observe your Wheel of Life. Be loving toward yourself about whatever you find. Where are you most satisfied? Where is there more to be desired? I encourage you to spend a little time reflecting on each section. Think about your goals and vision for the future. How can you take a 6 in the community section and move it closer to a 10 in due time, for example? What are the things you want to celebrate? Reflection and setting related intentions can be profound. You might even create some tangible goals for the week to help you move toward a place of greater contentment and fulfillment--something we all deserve!

Please feel free to comment about your experience here!
