The Chinese character for chi comprises two elements: rice and steam. I love this because it underscores just how important food is in Chinese medicine and the role diet plays in our health and well-being. Steam is tangible, it's a vapor that carries both aroma and warmth. But I have come to believe that steam can also be like a vibration. To me, this plate radiates the things we need--a connection to the earth and sea, to the seasons, and to the people who gather in the kitchen or around the table where a meal is shared. Enjoy these last weeks of summer--each and every day.
