Two of my kids celebrate their birthdays in July. This translates into having to be organized and creative twice during the summer. From my perspective, outdoor parties are the only option. In summers past, a consistent hit has been to create a backyard obstacle course. This year, however, with all the major rainstorms that we had in the Northeast, I added a new twist. Why not utilize all the mud puddles that have formed in the yard and create a mini mud run? Super messy, but fun for all. Between shooting baskets, kicking soccer balls, jumping hurdles, and the Slip 'N Slide, the kids had to get on their hands and knees and crawl through the mud. Low cost and lots of good outdoor fun.
But what about a real mud run for the whole family? There are several options that offer a kid run in connection with the adult mud run. Here are few to check out: Adventure Kids, Little ‘N' Filthy Fun Run, The Bill Bottino Mud Run.
These are a little more intense than the simple thing that I created in our yard, but they seem like a fun way to spend the morning with your kids outdoors...
If you go, please send pictures. I would love to see them. Maybe I will see you out on the course!
