I have been hearing people talk about hemp seeds for years. But for some reason, the idea of eating them never appealed to me. The other day however, I finally broke down and bought a package in the store. I couldn’t believe it when I first tried them. They were really good! They taste like a nuttier version of Parmesan cheese. I’ve really been enjoying them sprinkled on top of my salads, twirled into my cereals, and folded into homemade muffins and breads. They also make a wonderfully creamy, protein rich milk—no straining required.
Hemp milk is gaining popularity among health beauties looking to embrace a vegetable-focused diet. Homemade hemp milk is super easy to make (combine water, hemp seeds and a touch of sweetener in a blender and process until creamy!) and contains approximately 10g of protein per 1 cup serving. In addition to a protein punch, hemp milk also offers up both Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids, which our bodies need for brain function, growth, and development. Using a creamy hemp milk is a great way to dial up the nutrient profile in your morning smoothie.

Note: Homemade hemp milk can be a bit of an acquired taste. If you are new to hemp milk, and are surprised by the taste, I suggest adding a half of banana and a touch more of a natural sweetener to this recipe.
