Smoothie Wednesday: Cleansing Green

Posted by

This weekend, my son shared his first ice-cream-on-a-stick with me, my husband made some of the best grilled food I had eaten all summer, and I enjoyed what arguably was the most epic cocktail of the season (thanks to some fresh ginger juice). It was a weekend filled with deliciousness. So this week, I’m looking to hit the reset button with a cleansing green smoothie. This recipe packs a serious punch. The smoothie is packed with nutrient-dense ingredients, such as kale and baby spinach, plus a dose of fruit, including a green apple and squeeze of fresh lemon juice, to dial up your body’s natural cleansing and energizing work. I like to finish off this particular smoothie with a drizzle of good honey.

Cleansing Green Smoothie
Serves 1 (260 calories with honey, 200 calories with Stevia)

2 Tuscan kale leaves
1 handful baby spinach
1 green apple, pitted, peeled and quartered
1 cup water
1/4 avocado, peeled
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
1/4-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled
Generous drizzle of good honey or 1/8 teaspoon Stevia
Handful of ice

Better-for-you ingredients

Kale is full of nutrients with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits that help your body stay vibrant and youthful. The leafy green is also packed with chlorophyll. Chlorophyll removes heavy metals and chemical toxins from your body.

Fresh lemon juice is more than just a great flavor enhancer. It’s also a powerful digestive aid and a natural laxative. A strong digestive system with regular eliminations is crucial to keeping your body’s restorative work on track.

Place ingredients into a good powerful blender until smooth and creamy. Thin with water or thicken with ice if desired. Enjoy!
