Smoothie Wednesday: Fall Apple

I love fall and all the fun activities that come with cooler weather. For instance, I can’t wait to go apple picking. I love climbing into the car, turning on music, and embracing a scenic drive. Plus, there’s nothing like a mug of piping hot apple cider and a few bites of a freshly-made cider doughnut to really make you feel like a kid again. Yes, I’m one of those people who usually comes home with one bag of apples too many.  (You too?!)  And so I get to work putting together some yummy apple pies, a few variations of applesauce and even some terrific fall smoothies. This is one of my favorites.

Fall Apple Smoothie

Serves 1 (150 calories)

1 Gala apple, cored and quartered
1/2 cup baby carrots or 1 medium carrot
1/2-inch – 1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled
1/2 tablespoon good honey
1 cup water
Handful of ice

Better-for-you ingredients

Apples and their juice are cleansing and believed to be beneficial for your liver and gallbladder. Apples also contain pectin, which health gurus say remove cholesterol and toxic metals from your body.

Ginger is believed to fire up your body’s natural detoxification work. Ginger also helps boost your body’s circulation (which helps support a youthful glow) and helps expel gas, which health beauties believe is a leading contributor to cellulite.

Directions

Place ingredients into a powerful blender until smooth and creamy. Thin with water or thicken with ice if desired. Enjoy!
