Autumn means crisp days, orange leaves...and, for many of us, dry, itchy skin. For an extra layer of moisture, grab a bottle of plant-based oil, like olive, safflower, almond, or canola, from the pantry.
To apply it, rub a thin layer on top of your usual nighttime lotion, recommends Paula Begoun in the ninth edition of her book Don't Go to the Cosmetic Counter Without Me, published this month.
These simple oils do just a good a job of locking in moisture as pricier specialty oils, like emu or argan oils, says Begoun. Plus, they're free of added fragrances, like lavender or citrus, which can irritate dry skin.
