Healthy Skin DIY: Moisturizing Oatmeal Milk

Posted by

If the cooler weather is making your skin dry and itchy, look no further than your pantry. According to aromatherapist Barbara Close, founder and owner of Naturopathica, a holistic spa in East Hampton, NY, rinsing your face with oatmeal "milk" can soothe and hydrate irritated skin.

Oatmeal has moisturizing properties, explains Close. It also contains salicylic acid, which can calm irritated skin. Her one-ingredient recipe takes a mere five minutes to make, so try it today:

Soothing Face Milk

1/2 cup oatmeal

1. Place oats in a clean washcloth and secure closed with a rubber band.
2. Fill your bathroom sink with water and soak the washcloth for five minutes. Squeeze the washcloth several times to release the milk.
3. Apply the cloth to your face as a compress as the water cools. Splash the oat water on your face; do not rinse.
