Smoothie Wednesday: Deep Chocolate Pear

The days are starting to grow cooler here in New York ⎯which means some delicious pears are slowly beginning to arrive in the markets.

Late fall and winter are the best time to enjoy some truly wonderful pears. Yellow and red Bartletts are some of the first arrivals, and are usually the most widely available. Pears are fabulous, of course, sliced and eaten on their own. They also pair beautifully with a drizzle of chocolate! I was feeling decadent this week and made this Deep Chocolate Pear Smoothie for breakfast. But this smoothie would also make a wonderful late afternoon snack.

Deep Chocolate Pear
Serving Size: 1 (210 calories – with Stevia)

1 Bartlett pear
1 cup almond milk (Store-bought or make your own!)
1 handful baby spinach (optional, though recommended!*)
1 tablespoon good cocoa powder
1/16th – 1/8th teaspoon Stevia, or drizzle good honey
3-4 ice cubes
* The tender, baby spinach melts into the rich chocolate. You won't even know it's there!

Place ingredients into a good powerful blender until smooth and creamy. Thin with water or thicken with ice if desired. Enjoy!
