Beauty Bag Spy: Olympic Rower Meghan Musnicki

Posted by

Being a summer Olympian doesn't mean being an autumn slacker, at least not for rower Meghan Musnicki. Since taking gold with the women's eight team in London, she's on a break from team practices, but she's ramping up her individual workouts with cross training like trail running, biking, and CrossFit.  "I use the term 'break' loosely as we have to report to training camp in San Diego at the end of the year and showing up out of shape is going to make it incredibly difficult!" she tells us.

Given Meghan's constant exposure to the elements and her intense workout schedule (along with the multiple daily showers that go with it), we asked her to share the products that keep her hair and skin in world-class shape.

Shampoo/Conditioner: John Freida Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Enhancing Shampoo and Conditioner;  I like this product because it makes my hair super soft and shiny, while also being super affordable, and also helps bring out my highlights without depositing any color. When I feel my hair needs a little bit more TLC, I use Frederic Fekkai's Brilliant Glossing Conditioner -- it's a little bit pricier but it it is super moisturizing, and doesn't weigh my hair down.

Soap/Body Wash: Since I work out so much and I am sweating a lot, and often have loads of sunscreen on my skin. I love to use Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Body Wash, it fights body breakouts, and has a great fresh scent.

Body Lotion: This particular product is a little tricky for me, being a rower. Our hands need to stay pretty roughed up and calloused, and constantly applying moisturizers is not conducive to this. But when I do moisturize, my current favorite is Kiehl's Creme de Corps body lotion. It is super hydrating, unscented and absorbs into my skin quickly.

Deodorant: Dove deodorant comes in great scents (currently I am using "Soothing Chamomile") without being overpowering and -- most importantly since I am frequently baring my underarms in tanks and sports bras -- goes on clear.

Sunscreen: Since I am outside in the elements for most of my day, it is essential that I have a good sunscreen. On my face I have to use a mild sunscreen because anything with fragrance and certain chemicals starts to "burn" my face since I am always wearing it.  My current fave is Coppertone Sensitive Skin for Faces -- it is SPF 50 and contains zinc oxide. On my body, I can use a stronger sunscreen with more staying power. Right now I have Coppertone Sport Continuous Spray SPF 30, it is sweat-proof and water resistant, and perhaps most importantly, it is a spray.  Having any type of lotion on our hands when we row is not a good idea, so having a sunscreen that we can easily reapply without getting our hands greasy is essential.

Face Wash: I swear by Philosophy's Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash.  It is gentle enough to use morning and night on my skin and it sloughs off dead skin leaving my face super soft.

Facial Moisturizer: I am currently a huge fan of Patricia Wexler's line of facial care products.  I am getting more, how shall I say, mature in age and I am starting to notice fine lines and wrinkles. I wash my face twice a day, then I apply her Skin Regenerating Serum followed by either the Intensive 3-in-1 SPF 30 Day Cream (love that it has SPF 30 in it), or if it is night time I use the Intensive Night Reversal and Repair Cream.  If I'm feeling particularly old, I'll also apply the Intensive 3-in-1 Eye Cream as well.
