Healthy Skin DIY: Soothing Milk Bath

Posted by

In search of a hostess gift? Consider whipping up some homemade milk bath satchels. Not only are these bags easy to make, but they also turn a simple bath into a luxurious skin-softening soak, says Trisha Shirey, the director of Flora and Fauna at Lake Austin Spa Resort.

To make the bags, you'll need muslin bath bags, like those by Elements Bath and Body, or cheese cloth and rubber bands.

Soothing Milk Bath

1/4 cup powdered milk
1/4 cup Epsom salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup dried herbs of choice
10 drops of essential oil of choice

Directions:

1. Stir together ingredients. Place mixture in a muslin bag or several layers of cheese cloth secured by a rubber band.
2. Place bag in the tub and add hot water. Steep for a few minutes before enjoying the bath; use the softened herb bag to gently exfoliate the body.
3. Toss the entire used bag into your compost heap. Or store unused bags in a glass jar for several months.

Trisha Shirey is the director of Flora and Fauna at Lake Austin Spa Resort in Texas. She teaches aromatherapy, cooking, and craft classes at the spa.
