Natural Beauty Gurus: The 10 Questions I Always Ask, Jolene Hart

Who is your beauty inspiration? I’m inspired by women who are confident and embrace their own natural beauty, with or without makeup. They seem to radiate beauty. Lately I’ve been particularly inspired by Rosemary Gladstar, an author and herbalist, and her incredible knowledge of herbs. I’d love to train under her someday.

What product/treatment/beauty indulgence do you spend the most on? My diet is really my most important beauty indulgence, so I spend money on local, organic produce, grains, and supplements. I do shell out for beauty products as well – my pricier must-haves are essential oils, body oils, and massages as a treat.

What do you spend the least on? I spend next to nothing on my hair. I’ve never dyed it, which saves a ton on upkeep. And I’ve been known to ask my talented best friend to cut it a few times a year. She’s so good you’d never know the difference!

What does age mean to you? Age is a gift that allows you to know yourself better, to appreciate your body and to understand what you need to look and feel your most beautiful.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about skin/hair/nails/beauty this year? I’ve learned to appreciate how far a little balance goes toward overall radiance. This might mean balancing your body’s pH with more alkaline green foods, balancing stress levels with a massage or balancing a busy schedule with time for exercise. Taking care of your body this way has a huge impact on your appearance.

What’s the one thing you do (not product-based) that you think affects your appearance more than anything else? Apart from diet and exercise, spending time with family and friends keeps me happy and positive. That definitely reflects in my appearance.

Why naturals?
I was raised to believe that what you put in your body plays a huge role in your overall health. So it only makes sense to me that the products we put on our skin make an impact as well. I choose beauty products made with natural ingredients that support my body, just as I do with food.

  • Hello Olessa and Jolene,

This may sound unusual written by a man however I too am a great believer in my diet being the most important beauty tip that many "experts" over look. Think about the skin effects of eating vast amounts of greasy fast food, chocolate and ice cream and within a short period of time the negative changes will become very apparent.

Jolene; Your book "Beauty Is Wellness" was enjoyable and informative. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

Olessa; As always, an excellent article. Keep up the great work!
    Take care,
    Andy
