Bio:Ellen Barrett, M.S., personifies modern fitness, where the mind, body and spirit converge for more intelligent, efficient workouts. She’s inspired millions of people worldwide to get-fit and stay-fit…and she’s just getting warmed up!

Raised in Upstate New York playing competitive tennis, Ellen was exposed to the eighties aerobics scene at the age of 12, when she jumped into a class after practice. It was pure love. She started teaching aerobics at 17 and fantasized about making a career out of this exciting craze. She graduated from University of Connecticut is 1993 with a degree in communications, then attained a master’s degree in Education from Syracuse University.

In 1997, Ellen began training celebrities like Christina Ricci, Justine Bateman, and Daphne Zuniga and teaching classes at Crunch on Sunset Blvd. Ellen went on to create several best-selling DVDs, write a book, present internationally, and own her own successful studio.

As Lifetime Television’s online fitness pro, she writes weekly about all matters fitness. Her most recent launch has been THE STUDIO by Ellen Barrett DVD series, and Prevention magazine’s FLAT BELLY WORKOUT DVDs.

Ellen now resides in New Haven, Connecticut with her husband and their son, Luca, born in 2008.

My Philosophy: Fitness in the 21st century is about energy.

If I weren’t doing what I’m doing now, I’d be an herbalist or a practitioner of Chinese medicine.

Favorite piece of advice: The only opinion that truly matters is the one you have of yourself.
