Acupuncturist
Esther Gokhale, L.Ac., is an acupuncturist and expert in pain-free living. She is the Nautilus Gold Award-winning author of "8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back" and creator of the Gokhale Method, an anthropologically-based approach to posture and alignment designed to eliminate and prevent back pain and other musculoskeletal problems. Esther is also the founder of the Esther Gokhale Wellness Center in Palo Alto, California.
Gokhale majored in biochemistry at Harvard and Princeton. After graduating from Princeton, she earned her degree in Chinese medicine (C.A.) from the San Francisco College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Because of her personal struggles with back pain, unsuccessful back surgery, and a dismal prognosis, she began an in-depth study of the causes and prevention of back pain. Esther traveled to Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America to study posture and movement in populations with low incidences of back pain. She did research and studied at Stanford University, taking courses in anthropology, anatomy and physiology. Using her formal education, specialized training and extensive field research, she developed the Gokhale Method. Her course, Gokhale Method Foundations, is taught internationally and consists of six posture lessons that transform people’s bodies, helping them to get rid of pain, improve their posture and feel more comfortable in their bodies. Her students appreciate Esther’s unique, systematic approach to pain-free living.
My Philosophy: Human beings are wonderfully self-healing when we learn how to get out of our own way.
If I weren’t doing what I am doing now I would be a hunter-gatherer or an artist.
Favorite piece of advice: If something isn’t working, ask what you could be doing differently.
