Naturopathic Doctor
Current home: San Diego
Bio: Dr. Brainard grew up in the Pacific Northwest. After graduating with a psychology degree from University of Oregon in 1999, she moved to Tucson to volunteer with Dr. Andrew Weil's integrative medicine program, hoping to confirm her passion for natural medicine (it worked). She went on to attend Bastyr University's doctorate program in Naturopathic Medicine. After graduating, Dr. Brainard moved to Boulder, Colo. where she began working for Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, a holistic pharmacy that is staffed with expert practitioners. She currently lives in San Diego, where she manages the Pharmaca in La Jolla and spends time educating customers on supplements, health, and lifestyle choices.
My Philosophy: Being raised on both conventional and natural medicine, I believe in an integrative approach to health and healing. Most important is that lifestyle choices will largely have influence over a person’s current and future state of health. Eat well, exercise, keep your immune system strong, manage your stress and do things that make you happy in life.
If I weren't doing what I’m doing now, I'd probably be: Living on an enormous farm with all varieties of domestic and exotic rescue animals. And if I had the musical talent, I would be on the road touring and entertaining people.
Favorite piece of advice: We are human and we are imperfect; accept responsibility for the things you are fallible for and forgive yourself.
