Mindy Pennybacker
Environmental expert, author of "Do One Green Thing: Saving the Earth Through Simple, Everyday Choices"
Home: Honolulu, Hawaii
Bio: Born and raised in Hawaii, educated at Stanford University, the Iowa Writers Workshop, and the law school of the University of California, Davis, Mindy Pennybacker lived with my husband and son in New York City before returning to Honolulu in 2009. A journalist specializing in environmental health, green products and natural resource protection, she was editor in chief of The Green Guide for 11 years. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Nation, The Atlantic Monthly, Sierra, and elsewhere. When she's not writing, she's surfing (or swimming if the waves are flat).
My Philosophy: If it's good for the environment, it's good for you. Whether it's buying organic and local food, greener cleaners, personal care products and electronics, or taking simple steps to conserve water and energy, our individual choices collectively add up to positive global change.
If I weren't doing what I do now I'd be: a writing teacher.
Favorite piece of advice (or “pearl of wisdom”): No more green guilt!
